SEPT 2016

Well Summer is here and so is "Fire Season"  with several LARGE fires, including the "Sand Fire' & the "Blue Cut' fire just behind us we are working on lessons learned and completing lists of haulers, evac sites and other important info that will stay waiting till the next big fire.

As most of you know, Mustang-Spirit always opens up to take in any Evacuated Livestock.  During the Blue Cut fire we took in an extra 25 head of livestock (19 horses, poines & drafts, 4 donkeys, and 2 steer, not to mention the 1st evening we also had 4 extra dogs, a cat and a parrot, plus their family here too)  We can normally house around 40 extra head or so, but should the need arise we can always move some of our guys to free up even more space for horses & livestock in need....and even after the evacuation orders are lifted there is often still a need to house animals who's homes have been destroyed. We offer housing at no charge in these cases but do ask that owners cover the cost of their animals feed & other needs (vet, farrier etc).

If you would like to be added to our volunteer list, can help house evac'd animals, or are available to assist should we take in any animals please give us a call or email with your contact info!   760-807-7558  or email TaniaBennett@Mustang-Spirit.org

Stay safe and if you have time, check out our upcoming events below or come volunteer or play with us here at the ranch.

High Desert Versatility Challenge

What is High Desert Versatility Challenge?  well, its a kind of new idea we came up with at Mustang-Spirit.  It's kind of a combination of "Playday" and "Jackpot" type classes.  About 1/2 of the events will be ribbon only, 1/2 will be Jackpot and points from all classes will count toward year end silver buckles!!  The idea here is to find the all around "most versitil horse"  So with that in mind, we will have obstacle courses, western and english pleasure classes, cart classes and even a few speed events but keeping with the "play day" type event we will also offer in hand classes to help get green horses used to the "show experience"

Ribbons will be awarded to 1st-5th in each of the classes
High Point & Reserve High Point will be awarded at each event
Plus Cash Awards Paid at each event.  Payouts will be as follows for the individual jackpot classes-40% of the entry fee for that class will go to the winner/s and 10% from each jackpot class will be held and awarded to the High Point & Reserve Winner of the day.

You do NOT have to enter each type of class.  You can just pick the ones you feel most comfortable entering, or maybe give something new a try!!!  You do have to compete in at least 1 Jackpot class in a minimum of 3 separate shows for points to count toward Year End High Points for each partnership (horse/rider team)
